Fat is NOT another 'F' word
When you sit at lunch,you see a colleague bringing less calorie diet food.When another friend questions,'Hey! you have your favorite egg plant lasagna over there,didn't you see?'. 'I did,but I'm on diet' comes the reply.You know what it does to the person who is little obese eating his/her regular food at the table,it instigates a guilt that they cannot relish what they had been eating.If it ignites a spark to become fitter,that's awesome but what if that's not the case.The obese people are a matter of joke in social circles and subjected to umpteen free advises to shed weight.A seed had been planted in their sub conscious mind earlier that they are obese and fit for nothing.The subsequent incidents waters that negative seed to grow monstrously and consume their self confidence,self esteem and sometimes themselves.In social gatherings,friends make fun of them with various nick names.At home,parents put up theories around obese vs marriage.Relatives offer free advise comparing with their kids.They don't understand fitness is not about ME being fitter than Hrithik Roshan,it's about ME being fitter than earlier.Nobody would understand the psychological pinches/deep cuts they undergo.During all these incidents,they put up a half smile as they could do nothing.But behind that half smile,lies another half of self hatred,irritation and unexplainable pain.They were made to feel they are different species.Of late,I bet that the word fat is causing nightmares to most of us competing head to head with hair loss.
My point is, the colleague,friends,parents and relatives may be right in their own way but that's not the correct way to convey.If you really care for your friend/parent/family member,do not push to shed weight instead take initiative.Block the time,knock the door and take them to exercise ELSE keep quiet.Every obese person will reach a point where life forces to become fitter.Offer same love and love is better shown in action than words.Awareness is fine but don't get OCD about fat,calories,proteins,carbs.A healthy food eaten at right times with sufficient daily exercise is the need of the hour.Diet is something we do for specific time period to achieve targets but it shouldn't be a daily fashion and say NO to fat shaming.
Eat everything,Eat little & Exercise.Treat yourself on specific day of the week.Be consistent.After all,remember life is short.
