Article 15 : Review

This is first time I watched a Anubhav sinha's film and I got an idea of how it is going to be when I saw the names of Anurag kashyap and Vishal Bhradwaj in the dedication list of the film titles. This film certainly has their influence on the director is what I feel."Their status is what we give them" says the antagonist to the inquiring Ayushmann in a case related to the abduction, rape and killing of 2 Dalit girls and missing of one girl for asking to increase the wage rate by 3 rupees, yes 3 rupees!!.This hits hard and explains the gist of the film and situation in many parts of India.Who are 'we'? Who are 'they'? is something everyone has to introspect. The film stands out for its sensitive portrayal of the subject, honest writing and realistic visuals.Top notch performances by the cast takes you through an emotional ride. Ayushmann proves once again that he always backs good scripts and cements my faith in him that I can watch his films without reading the film synopsis. But what stands out to me is the cinematography with haunting visuals. If you had watched the film, you would understand why I say it is haunting. The film did not question anything, did not answer anything but depicted and mirrored the age old caste system and the discrimination faced by the lower castes even to date. In a particular scene,Ayushmann pins the Article 15 of the constitution on the police station billboard as a reminder to everyone.Perhaps,it's best to pin it into our heads!!

"Article 15 of the Indian Constitution prohibits discrimination of Indians on basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth"
